Contact SIT

Verizon offers customers use of its laboratory facilities including testbeds, documentation, systematic processes, and associated recording/tracking techniques.  Technical documentation includes specific test plans, test procedures, and test exit reports. SIT's technical staff provides support and is also available on a consultation basis.

System and Subsystem Testing

The SIT laboratories follow a well documented process with a strict methodology for testing based on ISO 9001:2000 quality management requirements. These processes provide for:
  • Test Plans: designed to ensure strict compliance to a set of requirements that are developed to meet the architectural design of the network. Included in the test plans are a requirements traceability matrix and architectural diagrams denoting the configuration for the intended application.
  • Test Cases/Procedures: tailored to test and validate each individual requirement with detailed procedures. The procedures occasionally require innovative techniques to uncover potential vulnerabilities in a given product when put into a realistic test configuration.
  • Test Execution and Results: designed to provide conclusions and recommendations that are useful to those customers unable to execute the Test Plans themselves. This also enables trust in the Verizon testing excellence program.

Test Scripts

Verizon Laboratories have automated the execution of time-consuming repetitive tasks. With the aid of research programs through outside institutions, such as universities, Verizon has also developed analysis tools that permit the automated analysis of test results significantly reducing the time needed for the test cycle. Given the innovativeness and uniqueness of these tools, the vendor community could benefit from these tools during their own testing.

Technical Consulting

Highly trained employees are a major resource of the SIT Labs. These personnel can be made available as Consulting Staff to interested parties, such as in the design of Carrier quality products that are compatible with Verizon's deployment goals. Insertion of this Consulting Staff into the product development cycle at the earliest possible point will result in better products for the vendor and a shorter product delivery time for Verizon.
Technical Reference Documentation
Contained herein are technical reference documents associated with the Verizon Systems Integration and Testing laboratory test programs:
Lab Entry Criteria Documentation (.pdf) -- contains requirements for supplier equipment entry into Verizon's Labs
Power Failure Recovery (.pdf) -- identifies key Verizon requirements and testing procedures for Telcordia GR-472 for Network Element Configuration Management
Trouble Definitions and Status Categories(.pdf) -- The levels of severity for trouble/defects found during testing and the associated categories for tracking status are outlined.
Labeling Requirements for Light Emitting Products (.pdf) -- Verizon's NEBS compliance application guidelines for labeling light emitting products. These guidelines apply to light emitting products located anywhere in the Verizon network, from the CO to the customer's premises.
The Verizon NEBS Compliance Group also provides Consulting services designed to assist vendors and Independent Test Laboratories on issues related to NEBS requirements. Consulting services include, but are not limited to, a review of NEBS test plans and equipment configurations. Corrective action for failures experienced during NEBS testing is also provided. This service is extremely useful to vendors whose products are still in the early stages of development.
